Austin, TX – Other Worlds Film Festival is excited to announce its first wave of films for the festival's 8th edition (December 2-5, 2021, in-person at Galaxy Highland Theatre). To coincide with our film festival's 8th year, this first wave contains 8 phenomenal feature films, including one World Premiere.

"A lot of people, including myself, thought there would be a drought in the film industry this year. I’m happy to say we were way off!" says Dan Repp, Other Worlds Senior Programmer and Events Director. "Creative minds found an outlet during the tough times and there has been a rise in content for all genres. Other Worlds is celebrating our 8th year by announcing 8 glorious films in our first wave."

In addition to our in-person festival, we're hosting a virtual extension of the festival called the Cyber Extension Multipass through Eventive. Running December 6-12, the "Voyage to Other Worlds" won’t have to end on a late Sunday night before having to head back to work - it will continue for another seven days! That’s another whole week to catch up on features and shorts, as well as exclusive content only available online. A majority of the films playing Other Worlds will reprise in the the cyber extension so you won’t have to miss a single film.

Other Worlds' 2021 Opening Night Film is the World Premiere of MADELINES, a SciFi time travel thriller directed by Jason R. Miller. Miller is known for his work on BLOODHOUND, SEQUENCE BREAK, HATCHET, and FROZEN.

“Everyone knows I love time travel films, but MADELINES is something very fresh because we basically never leave the present and we just see the after effect of why you shouldn't mess with time." says Bears Rebecca Fonté, Other Worlds Founder and Artistic Director. "It's funny, it's bloody, and it's a little bit nutty. It's also exciting to have Brea Grant, the Austin Scream Queen, back at the festival, who was at our Under Worlds screening of The Stylist, and was on a panel at our virtual fest last year. I am thrilled to bring the festival back in person this December, and I can't imagine a more charming way to kick it off then MADELINES.”

The other amazing films in our Other Worlds 2021 first wave that we're happy to announce are the Texas Premieres of BLANK, A HARD PROBLEM, HELL IS EMPTY, KRATT, TAKE BACK THE NIGHT, WHEN I CONSUME YOU, and WICKED GAMES.
