Other Worlds film Festival announces Lineup for December 2020 virtual festival
(AUSTIN, Texas) – Other Worlds Film Festival (Other Worlds), the premier SciFi Film Festival in the United States, announces the official program selections for the 2020 Other Worlds Film Festival, held virtually December 1–6, 2020. Recently named as one of “The World’s Best 50 Genre Fests” by MovieMaker Magazine, the seventh annual festival will feature more than forty films, including features, documentaries, and shorts showcasing the diverse genre of SciFi over six days. Badges for the 2020 Other Worlds Film Festival are available at two levels and are on sale now at otherworldsfilmfest.com/badges.
“I think over seven years, this is one of our most ambitious, varied and international programs ever,” said Other Worlds Film Festival Founder, Bears Rebecca Fonté. “I’m excited that we will get to give LAPSIS its Austin audience premiere, after it was intended to play SXSW. SWEET RIVER and BLEED WITH ME are character driven Under Worlds entries that don’t make sense in many other genre fests but are perfect for us. DUNE DRIFTER starts Battlestar Galactica and ends a little more Europa Report. And I’m excited to premiere the first ever Weirder Worldssidebar where the animated space rock opera DEATH OF A ROCKSTAR is joined by ultra-violent LGBTQ thrillerPLAYDURIZM and the SciFi Horror Puppet Comedy CREATURES, from the puppet creation team behind The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. In addition to already announced Opening Night film SKYLIN3S, Liam O’Donnell’s thrilling threequel, 2020 Other Worlds Film Festival will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Danny Cannon’s cult classic with JUDGE DREDD for the Supernova Launch. With every other SciFi film a comic book movie these days, Judge Dredd premiered at a time (1995) when Danny Cannon’s big, bold in-your-face shoot-em-up drawn in magic marker was something of an anomaly. Cannon will join Supernova Launch fans for a Q&A discussing law, justice, and the meaning of life.
OPENING NIGHT FILM
SKYLIN3S | France | 110 min | North American Premiere

In Skyline (2010) the alien invasion began… in Beyond Skyline (2017) the earth fought back… and now, in Skylin3s, an elite team of soldiers takes the fight to the alien’s home planet.
Several years since other-worldly blue lights first descended from the skies, the once-killer extraterrestrials known as ‘Pilots’ have had their biology altered to peacefully coexist with humans. When a lethal new virus threatens to revert the aliens to their human-hunting form, super-powered human-alien hybrid Captain Rose Corley (Beyond Skyline’s Lindsey Morgan) leads a desperate mission beyond the far reaches of space. This time, to save our world, we must invade theirs.
With writer/director (and Alumni) Liam O’Donnell once again at the helm of this thrilling threequel, expect explosive action, mind-bending special effects and a continuation of the galactic world-building that Other World fans have come to know and love from the SciFi series.

Maintaining law and order in the dystopian Mega-City One, one of the last strongholds against the barren wasteland of the “Cursed Earth,” lethally efficient Street Judges operate as judge, jury, and the instant executioner. When the most formidable and revered of the these – Judge Joseph Dredd (Sylvester Stallone) – finds himself framed for a murder and sentenced beyond the walls, he teams up with a computer hacker he sent to prison (Rob Schneider) to clear his name. Based (admitted loosely) on the British weekly comic, Judge Dredd notably flopped in the US but did quite well in the rest of the world, possibly one of the first victims of complaining fanboys who couldn’t get over the fact Dredd took off his helmet or kissed Diane Lane (who can blame him?)
In recent years, the film has gained more defenders, especially in the wake of the lifeless 2012 Karl Urban reboot. The sets, vehicles and costumes (including Versace’s Judge uniform) sparkle and capture the comic book’s aesthetic, as does director Danny Cannon’s darker satirical version. Cannon joins us to discuss law, justice and the meaning of life (hint: it ends).

As he aims to circumvent the threat of robot cablers passing him, the growing hostility from fellow workers suggests he may not be the first one to cable under his call sign.
